To build the Argentina we know is possible, what better way to start than to know it? To understand it and transform it. Fundar launches Argendata, a reference site with data about Argentina, to add evidence-based knowledge to the public debate.

For a culture of data
As we write this welcome, it is clear that Argentines are frustrated with the current state of affairs. What needs to be clarified, however, is that we can pinpoint exactly the state of affairs. Are there more poor people in Argentina than in other Latin American countries? When did Argentina get screwed? Or better yet: did Argentina get screwed? In one of the most nominal countries in the world, this is not an obvious or evident answer, although there is a precise one. Argendata makes this answer available to the attentive reader: the answer that counts. Because knowing how we are is necessary to transform reality.
About the data
Data collection, management and availability at Argendata are based on three pillars that frame the actions, tools and processes: transparency and reproducibility, data quality and harmonisation.
- Resource management: developing and maintaining standards and programs to facilitate the management, control and post-processing of data produced by researchers to minimise the gap between individual research processes and the need for harmonised and consistent information.
- Quality control and reporting: programs that allow systematic queries on data quality, according to project standards.
- Source code harmonisation: managing programs and workflows to manage the data generation process and ensure reproducibility and updating over time.
To make the dataset production process more transparent and to ensure continuous improvement and updating of the information, an open space was created in Github. There, the data and the code of the different stages related to processing different sources of information described above are shared.
